LISBON …  LIFE’S ADVENTURES and LESSONS

LISBON … LIFE’S ADVENTURES and LESSONS

“To the gods we attributed a dazzling existence

Consubstantial with the sea the clouds trees and light

In them the waves’ glinting the foam’s long white frieze

The woods’ secret and soft green the wheat’s tall gold

The river’s meandering the mountain’s solemn fire

And the great dome of resonant weightless free air

Emerged as self-aware consciousness

With no loss of the first day’s marriage-and-feast oneness

Anxious to have this experience for ourselves

We humans repeated the ritual gestures that re-establish

The initial whole presence of things –

This made us attentive to all forms known by the light of day

As well as to the darkness which lives within us And in which the ineffable shimmer travels

The Greeks”

–  Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen an award-winning Portuguese poet and writer.

“Lisbon’s many nooks and crannies are home to numerous attractions that continue to surprise and seduce visitors. The city’s charm lies in its inspiring architecture, enchanting squares and Moorish legacy.” … DK Eyewitness travel.

SELFLESSNESS

Selflessness

“Feeling important makes one heavy, clumsy and vain. To be a warrior one needs to be light and fluid… Self-importance is man’s greatest enemy.” -Carlos Castaneda.

Once, there was a farmer who had an amazing Goose. Each day he would visit her nest and the Goose would lay a beautiful, golden egg.

The farmer would take the egg to market and soon afterwards he began to get rich. However, after a while he became greedy and felt that he was not getting rich fast enough.

One day, he came with an idea that he could get all the golden eggs at once by killing the Goose. After he finished the deed, he realized that not a single egg came out. He was devastated and realized that he had killed the golden goose that was giving him the golden eggs.

CONSIDERATION

  1. How aware are you of the result of your actions?
  2. Do you evaluate the choices of your decisions by weighting their costs and benefits?
  3. Are you satisfied and grateful for what you have?

FORGIVENESS IS THE HEALING BALM OF LIFE

Forgiveness The Healing Balm of Life

“Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on a heel that has crushed it.”   -Mark Twain

LOVING SOULS OF TENDERNESS

Life is beautiful, graceful, marvelous but at times difficult and hurtful. There are moments when we go through harsh and painful situations. We feel wrong things are done to us, something negative said or a hurtful event against us and start to have feelings of hurtfulness and resentment.

Science and Spirituality – Are They Connected?

Science and Spirituality

Hmmm …. This is such a timeless question and one that has been posed many times, down though the centuries.  It is also a divisive question, one that has been hotly debated and argued by many.

Is it a matter of timing? Yes!  It was not possible to create harmonious societies on a large scale, until we had experienced the events of the last decades. Just as it’s impossible for a newborn to get up and walk, the new ways of being could not have been realized until we passed through the events that are still ongoing. The preferred visions of a co-operative, selfless society cannot come true until we have matured to the next stage of our evolution. This is the spiritual awakening process we are undergoing now.

7 Spiritual Thoughts to Brighten Your Day

Seven Spiritual Thought to Brighten your Day

 1. I am a blessed child of God.

I’m an immortal, invulnerable spirit. A soul in the process of evolution. I am a cell in the universal body of the universal spirit and I am continually in contact with that universal power at some level. I am protected and sustained by that power.

2. I am happy, peaceful, loving and content.

My value as a human being does not depend on how much I accomplish or how intelligent I am, or how attractive I appear, but on how sincere my intentions and efforts are and how much they are in agreement with my inner values.

How to Control Anger – 5 Steps to Master Your Emotions

How to control your anger

Controlling anger is not an easy thing to do.  For most people it takes years of counseling, therapy and meditation to master their emotions, and even then there are some that never quite overcome it.  For those that do, they must first accept the fact that the forces that drive anger do not exist externally, but they come from within.  Once they come to terms with this reality, it’s simply a matter of identifying which emotion and belief that is at the root, and reprogramming the mind to be able to effectively control these feelings of fear and anger.  Here are 5 steps to do just that.

Reflection

Reflection

Friends it’s cold outside but the fire in my heart is warm with wonderful memories of this year that is passing. It is a time to slow down and take solitude in our dwellings by the fire and pass our time in peaceful reflection.
Through the curious and wondrous process of self-discovery, we often stumble beautifully into the spaces between our thoughts and our suffering.

Living in Awareness challenges us to see everything from a higher perspective, discovering the truth that holds us all, daring us to mix the elements of world through our hearts and minds making all things visible. All of us are here to help unravel each other and to make our way back to love through the mirror of life.

The Power of Passion

The story is told that a dispassionate young man approached the Greek philosopher Socrates and casually stated, “O great Socrates, I come to you for knowledge”.

The philosopher took the young man down to the sea, waded in with him, and then dunked him under the water for thirty seconds. When he let the young man up for air, Socrates asked him to repeat what he wanted.

Knowledge, only O great one,” he sputtered. Socrates put him under the water again, only that this time it was a little longer. After repeated dunking and responses, the philosopher asked, “what do you want”? The young man finally gasped, “Air; I want air!”

“Good,” answered Socrates. “Now, when you want knowledge as much as you wanted air, you shall have it.”

Creating Our Best Life … Sixth in a Series of Seven Articles

I believe that humans have one basic motive, which is the tendency to fulfill one’s potential and achieve the highest level of ‘human-being-ness’ we can. Like a flower that will grow to its full potential if the conditions are right, but which is constrained by its environment, so people will flourish and reach their potential if the foundation they have created for themselves is good and strong enough. Some of the qualities of creating our best life are the power of these attributes of being able to discern, gather knowledge, distill wisdom and access intuitive knowing.
