  • In 1998, After seeing his playing techniques, Deval Sahay selected him to play for the Central Coal Fields Limited (CCL) team. Deval Sahay was an ex Bihar Cricket Association Vice-President.
  • Dhoni wanted to bat in top order and while he was playing for CCL, he got a chance to bat up the order. He utilized that chance in the right way and scored a century and helped his team CCL to move to the A division.
  • After seeing Dhoni’s hard-hitting batting shots and dedication, Deval Sahay approached the Bihar Cricket Association for Dhoni’s selection in the Bihar team.
  • Dhoni was included in the Bihar U-19 squad team in the 1998-99 season. His performance was not well, his team did not qualify for quarterfinals, and for this reason, He was not picked for the team like East Zone U-19 squad or Rest of India squad.

International Cricket Career

  • After his remarkable performance, Dhoni was selected in the ODI squad for the Bangladesh tour in the 2004-05 season. On Dec 23, 2004, Dhoni made his ODI Debut but he did not have a great start. In the first match, he got run out for a duck in the first ball. In the second match, he scored 12 runs from 11 balls, in the third match scored 7 runs from 2 balls. He scored only 19 runs in 3 matches at an average of 9.5 in the series.

  • Dhoni showed his talent by scoring 148 runs from 123 balls against Pakistan in his 5th match on April 5, 2005.
  • In Srilanka tour 2005/06 season, Dhoni promoted to No. 3 in the third ODI, he scored unbeaten 183 off 145 balls and helped India to chase down a target of 299. In that match, he held the record of hitting most sixes in an innings (10 sixes) by an Indian batsman. Later Rohit Sharma broke this record by hitting 16 sixes.
