DISCOVERING YOUR TRUE ESSENCE

As you set out to discovery your unique true essence, you will in all probability discover qualities and talents that you never knew existed. Alignment with your true self means becoming the person you were always intended to be. It brings a deep sense of fulfillment which extends to all aspects of life. In our everyday life it means that we eventually create the life pattern which best expresses what we have to offer. Unfulfilled people are restless and bored at home and at work, and with life in general. They are sometimes destructive and usually unhappy. Ego satisfaction is never more than temporary, and it is always illusionary. The true self is the source of creativity, individual expression and uniqueness.

Our Conditioning and Programming

The expansion of consciousness brings an expression in all areas of being. We are more conscious of our feelings and more able to empathize with others. As we become more conscious of our own thinking, we become increasingly less victimized by idle mental activity. In fact, we become more aware of our conditioning and programming.  We can transform our old belief systems to new conscious beliefs, one that serve us better.  We are able to heal our old wounds and as the whole self develops, the impulse towards creativity becomes inescapable. In time we are transformed as a new happier, healthier self emerges.

The Different Aspects of Self

Each of the aspects of Our Self has certain belief’s which support and sustains its presence in our overall identity.  These old beliefs have to do with our need for security, pleasure, and our sense of self-worth or our sense of freedom.  In some cases, we can feel conflicting emotions within. For example, our beliefs are often distorted or in conflict because of the differing needs of the different aspects of our self.  Some of the needs from the various aspects of self might be for love, growth, expression. Other aspects of our self might feel a strong need for basic survival and safety. It is when these needs come into conflict that sometimes causes confusion concerning what to do in certain situations. They might also cause us stress and worry as to  how to spend our time or how to live our lives.

Our Beliefs Support Our Identity

The image that we hold of self is central to our belief system. When we hold a ridged inflexible image of self, we invariably hold a closed and restricted view of the greater whole. When we come to an open and expanding view of ourselves, we perceive ourselves in a fluid expansive relationship with the greater whole. The philosophical view that we take about the nature of our own being will directly influence actions, behavior, attitudes and relationships.

We cherish many illusions believing both the reality of ‘self’ to be stable and constant and to remain grounded in physicality. While, this attitude is comforting and reassuring, it is not correct. Matter is built from a sub-atomic base which is energy in constant movement. Of course, we share a material nature, however; we are more than flesh and blood. The quest for healing yourself will ultimately reveal this in a way that is meaningful to you personally.

Healing the Various Aspects of Self

Not only are our minds imperfect, they are incredibly prone to error. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that we will sometimes come across new evidence that will challenge our old beliefs and assumptions. Every individual has a different window into reality, and we all have aspects of ourselves that contribute to that reality.

Research has shown that it is possible to change our thoughts and beliefs if we are willing to dedicate the time and effort. It was once believed that old thought patterns are often wired into our brains. However, the science of Neuroplasticity tells a different story. It seems that we can rewire these connections. We do this by actively reflecting and modifying what we think and believe about ourselves and the world we live in. The key is to be more aware of where our beliefs come from and what factors are shaping the map of our mind.

The Challenges of Healing Self

One of the most important challenges of healing Our Self is our willingness to accept all the parts of Our Self. This means the aspects we like and the aspects we fear.  We will need to face and accept even our own shadow side. Our shadow side are the feelings and parts of ourselves that we have rejected, repressed or disowned.  We do this when we are afraid to feel too much pain, fear, hurt, rejection, sadness, and anger.  And often, we are also afraid to feel too much love, passion, or joy.

We all have parts of our personalities we need to discover and understand.  You may know some of them already.  An example, is the small voice in our head that criticizes us when we feel we’ve made a mistake; The Critic.   Another one might be that part of us that stands firmly for what we believe and is willing to fight for this belief; The Warrior. WE all have these inner voices; your inner voice is not unique nor does it make you any different than anyone else.  Most of us come face to face with the various aspects of Our Self in one degree or another.

The Self-Discovery Process

The Self-Discovery process has often been likened to peeling back the layers of an onion.  However, the image is misleading for it suggests that our discoveries bring us the realization of an ever-diminishing self.  In reality it is perhaps more helpful to identify the starting point of the journey as the heart of the onion. As consciousness expands, we become aware of successive layers beyond our original conception. When we grasp the reality of each new layer, we have to re-evaluate our sense of wholeness. For what was once perceived as complete, in the light of an expanded consciousness, is still perceived to be partial.

We are not often aware of the dynamics of all the aspects of Our Self. These are aspects which develop gradually as we go through our experiences in life. Therefore, it is important that you understand that the feelings and parts of Our Self that have been repressed do not go away just because we want them to. They are the parts of Our Self that we actually need for our survival and our personal growth. If they are not allowed to express themselves because we choose not to look at them or choose to bury them inside of us; then we are in fact giving them the power to take over our life.

May we all come to know the true essence of ourselves. I celebrate those of you taking up the search for your true essence, may you have many profound and beautiful realizations as you journey. I wish you all of success on your personal discovery and also in your effort to support others in this process.

…. Love and Light, Christina
