Hmmm …. This is such a timeless question and one that has been posed many times, down though the centuries.  It is also a divisive question, one that has been hotly debated and argued by many.

Is it a matter of timing? Yes!  It was not possible to create harmonious societies on a large scale, until we had experienced the events of the last decades. Just as it’s impossible for a newborn to get up and walk, the new ways of being could not have been realized until we passed through the events that are still ongoing. The preferred visions of a co-operative, selfless society cannot come true until we have matured to the next stage of our evolution. This is the spiritual awakening process we are undergoing now.

Evolution in Our Collective Consciousness and Spirituality

Through the understanding of selflessness, perhaps for the first time we are realizing that we need to actively participate in this realignment of what is scientific and what is spiritual. As we attempt to sync ourselves more with the patterns of creation, we sadly see a world that is out of alignment. We see systems that are breaking down, causing misery, alienation and violence all around us.

This breakdown is a natural process from the point of view that we are undergoing a new birthing; a spiritual renaissance as a society. Just as the systems of biological organisms must re-pattern themselves and evolve over time, so does our society and our collective consciousness.  In essence, this is the connection between science and spirituality.

Old Science vs. New Science – How It Relates to Spirituality

For the better part of the last century, most of us were stuck in the scientific theories of Newtonian physics. As science and physics advances, we are now coming to understand what Quantum physics tells us.  All physical beings and objects come forth from one field of energy and subatomic particles. We are one energy and one matter. It is only our mind that creates the illusion of separateness, and the resulting fear and self-centeredness.

On a physical level, there is one field of energy and particles from which we are physically made. If we could see the subatomic particles we would not be able to distinguish between our bodies, the air around them, and the other beings and objects surrounding us. It is all one interconnected field of energy and matter.

We are quite literally the same energy as everything around us.  Many argue that this energy is our Spirit, thus science and Quantum physics has proven that spirituality in fact exists in all of us.

Our spiritual goal cannot be to return to the past, nor can it be to move forward to a future that is more of the same. I can think of no finer lens to see the world through than this current spiritual movement towards conscious evolution.

Thanks to pioneering scientific studies and the timeless principles and concepts of spirituality, I see the lines between science and spirituality dissolving. We are moving towards a higher expression of what it is to be human, living the highest expression of life. The most direct path to fulfillment, is and has been, the practice of know thyself.  We are Science, we are Spirit.
